Are you struggling to make your organic social media strategy work for your business? You're not alone. With over 4.8 billion social media users worldwide, brands are competing harder than ever for attention on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. The key to success isn't posting more content—it's posting smarter content with a strategic approach.

In this comprehensive guide, we'll share five proven strategies that successful brands use to elevate their organic social media presence, drive meaningful engagement, and achieve measurable business results. Whether you're looking to increase brand awareness, drive website traffic, or build a loyal community, these actionable tips will help you optimize your social media strategy for maximum impact.

From mastering platform-specific SEO to leveraging new features, you'll discover how to transform your social media from a time-consuming activity into a powerful growth engine for your business.

#1 Identify your priority platform and start excelling there first.

Too often we see brands try to be on every platform, regardless of its relevance to their brand,, and end up having a social media strategy that falls flat. We always recommend setting clear goals for the social media channel you’ve decided will be most important to your business (for most brands this is still Instagram!) and meeting those goals in a sustainable way before moving onto any secondary platforms. Each social media platform requires a unique approach to really have an impact on your business, and by taking on too many platforms at the same time spreads your content production, community management and customer service resources thin.

#2 Set KPIs and list the tactics that will move the needle on each KPI.

Just like in tip #1, too many brands think that each social media platform should be driving sales, website visits, boosting their brand awareness and building community. But the truth is, each platform has a completely different impact on your sales funnel, and even within each platform, there are different tools and tactics to impact in different ways. For example, Pinterest excels at driving website traffic - far more than most social media platforms - thanks to its ability to drive traffic months or even years after content has been posted. For many brands, Pinterest is their top source of website traffic, even more than Google, due to its unique ability to generate sustained traffic from older pins. Instagram offers brands the most opportunities to interact with their community through stories, polls, Q&As, DMs and comments and TikTok is a top-of-funnel powerhouse in terms of discoverability and how its algorithm doesn’t allows for even tiny accounts to “go viral.” Know which KPIs you want to focus on first in your social media strategy, and build the tactics around that.

#3 Start taking SEO seriously

If there has been one massive shift in organic social media in the past few years, it’s the importance and power of SEO in your social media copy. Most channels now serve as search destinations, and TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn and even YouTube are competing with Google for search queries - especially for younger generations (TikTok even has a search prompt above videos). Using keywords in your captions, on-screen text, voiceover transcription, alt text and profile bio and name field all allow you to rank for the search terms you want to be discovered with. Your social profiles are like websites now - and can even appear in Google searches! How to incorporate this into your strategy? Make sure you’re creating content that answers specific questions or solves specific problems for your target audience, and making sure the keywords that your audience is actually using are incorporated into every element of your organic content.

#4 Think about the lifespan of content.

Have you ever spent a lot of time brainstorming a piece of social content or series, hours filing it to be just right, editing, finding the perfect music, caption, etc. and within a few days it gets buried into your profile and engagement starts to trickle down to nothing? If so, it’s time to think more strategically about where you invest your time when it comes to content. Pinterest (as we already mentioned) has the longest lifespan of any social media platform, and making sure things like your story highlights and Instagram pinned posts are your strongest ones is way more important than investing hours into a story series that will be gone in 24 hours. Make sure that you have a content production plan that allows for quick, scrappy content creation!

#5 Always test new features.

In order to elevate your organic social media strategy, it’s critical to pay attention when social media platforms roll our new features. Not only will they allow you to more creatively reach your audience, they are often weighted more heavily in the algorithm because they want to encourage use and quickly gauge success of the new roll outs. For example, Instagram has added a lot of features recently, including a repost button for posts and reels, a scheduled messages in DMs, new AI tools, and what we’re most excited about - Trials, which lets you reach an audience of non-followers (what we’re all trying to do!!) to help you learn what resonates outside of your audience.
